Area by Multiplying Sides

📚 What You'll Learn

  • The area formula: length × width
  • Why multiplication works for finding area
  • Connecting arrays to area calculation
  • Solving area problems efficiently

In this video, we're going to learn how to find area by multiplying the sides of a rectangle.

Instead of counting every single square, we can use multiplication as a shortcut. If a rectangle is 5 units long and 3 units wide, we can multiply 5 × 3 to get 15 square units.

This works because the rectangle is like an array - rows and columns of squares. The length tells us how many columns, and the width tells us how many rows.

So the formula for area is: Area = length × width.

Now you're ready to calculate area by multiplying sides!
