Calculating Percent Error

📚 What You'll Learn

  • The formula for calculating percent error precisely
  • Taking the absolute value of the difference divided by actual results
  • Multiplying by 100 to convert to a percentage
  • Verifying your estimate matches the calculated percent error

In this video, I'm going to review how to precisely calculate percent error. I was able to estimate the percent error to be between five percent and 10 percent but let's go ahead and find out exactly what it is.

There is a formula for calculating percent error. It's to take the absolute value of the difference divided by the actual results, and then multiply by 100.

In this example, I will take the absolute value of the difference.

1.14 divided by the actual results 16.93, and then multiply by 100.

.0673.

Multiplied by 100 equals 6.73 percent and that's the precise percent error.
